Enjoyable simple project to make a 2×8 Combo from an old Chassis and cheap pine
Carlsbro Scorpion Chassis from 1976.. came in a rather knackered unloaded 2×12 cab..
Nicely laid out and wired up. Looks similar to HH products in style
standard (for the time) 2x 2n3055 output transistors for around 40/45 Watts into 4 Ohms
Chassis acts as the heatsink in this design fairly thick Aluminium.
nice simple connections to the transistors
Only mod I carried out was to change the main coupling capacitor for the speaker and the 50 Volt supply caps (the supply ws dipping when playing the amp flat out.. also ghost notes…)
OK simple pine frame made up for Dominator Style Cab
Front grill added and ready for sanding/finish
Sanded finished with simple Acrylic Varnish and Handle added (Vox Style)
2×8 inch Jensen Chicargo Range speakers installed 35 watt 8 ohms should work well with the 45 Watt Carlsbro Chassis
Simple grill cloth added inside the cab.. May change this and cover the ply front but does not look to bad as is.. nice and simple
3 Feet added
Back panel on ready for testing. Semi open cab design
Some room for leads in the back
Testing on the bench and she is a loud bright sounding combo. Tremolo is great!
On tiop of the original old 2×12 cab she came in.. it had had ahrd life and the chip board blown with water in various places..
An improvement I think 😉
Using her in my front room
Guitar there to give you an idea of scale

Real pleased with this project the angled front give really good sound projection fine for small gigs Interesting little project from a ebay purchased almost dead 1976 amp. I wanted to try out a 2×8 cab design as I had enjoyed playing my guitar through a Marble Blues Harp amp using these speakers. Also to give me a small easy to carry amp with some power. Like angle fronted cabs so gave this design an angled front. Really enjoyed this little project and the tone of the amp when cranked is very good and would give some tube amps a run for their money! Want to try her out with blues harp.
