CMI made in Japan L6S copy. Simple tidy up and different pickups added to make a really nice guitar.. Super fast slim neck. Unlike the Gibson ones this one is made out of Mahogany (should be Maple) but has made a really nice flexible guitar.
Tuners a bit worn out and looseCMI Logo just sprayed on with no lacquer over the topSeveral of the knobs are crackedClosed top [pickups looked good but sounded limp…Body is fairly good nick but many chips touched up with black paintClosed cover pickups sounded pretty muddy…Nicely cut cavitiesBody is mahogany I believe as is the neckSome touched up chipsControl cavity cheap minipots but a good switch!Glue had dried out and pickups are microphonic and come apart easitlyNice thick alnico magents, full humbuckers around 10KCMI logo came off when the headstock was cleaned!Improved tuners added as originals were a little slack!Gibson Marauder front pickup added and rear PAF style Alnico pup in the bridgeWilkinson birdge used as gives good adjustment of intonation (bridge posts not anglesa as a harmonic bridge was originally used.All strung up and sounding great!I looked at the original pickups again seem quite well made but need potting to remove microphoneyOK went ahead potted the piciks and tried again.. also installed a Bigsby style Trem looks the part and sound great (good match for the roller bridgeHeadstock logo started coming off when cleaning! so took it right offNow pretty good medium high output pickups on this L6s copy!Happy with this CMI L6S copy restoration
